New Delhi, September 22, 2026: (RJS POSITIVE MEDIA) The stage at the packed Shri Ram Centre came alive on September 22, 2026, with profound devotion, courage and sacrifice during the presentation of ‘Amar Balidaan’, organised by Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti in association with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to commemorate the 350th Martyrdom Year of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Through powerful performances, evocative music, dynamic movement and atmospheric lighting, the theatrical presentation brought the Guru’s extraordinary valour and supreme sacrifice to life. This grand programme was organized by Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti in collaboration with Ministry of Culture.
Shri Vijay Goel, Vice Chairman, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, along with Shri Ashok Goel, MLA; Shri Ramesh Bidhuri, former MP; Shri Vijay Kumar, Sangathan Mantri, Sanskar Bharati; Shri Ashok Kumar Tiwari, Sanskar Bharati, Director GSDS, Dr. Sanjeet Kumar, inaugurated the theatrical presentation.
This play has been directed by acclaimed theatre director and Sangeet Natak Akademy awardee Raj Upadhyay. Actors dressed in authentic period attire, portrayed the unfolding drama with remarkable conviction, from gripping battle sequences featuring synchronized sword fights to deeply moving moments of grief, faith and resilience. The interplay of icy blue and warm amber lights transformed the brick-tiered set into a vivid landscape of conflict and conviction, while every scene echoed Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s unwavering commitment to righteousness, religious freedom and humanity. The performance left the audience deeply moved, celebrating a timeless legacy of courage, sacrifice and faith in an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Vijay Goel, said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's sacrifice transcended the boundaries of religion and community. He laid down his life to uphold the freedom of conscience. His legacy continues to inspire generations to stand against injustice, uphold truth and demonstrate courage in the face of oppression.
Goel said that through this powerful medium of theatre, our aim is to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice, courage and resilience of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, while celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage and timeless legacy of spiritual strength and selfless service.
Goel said that Guru Tegh Bahadur ji’s martyrdom remains a powerful symbol of religious freedom, human dignity and the defence of fundamental rights. We are paying tribute to the extraordinary courage, spiritual strength and supreme sacrifice”, he added.
Goel said, “Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji laid down his life not merely for a community, but for the fundamental right of every human being to freedom of belief and dignity. His supreme sacrifice represents the highest ideals of fearlessness, compassion and selflessness.
Goel also added that Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti has consistently endeavoured to connect the younger generation with the great historical personalities of the nation and their life values through cultural programmes. The life of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji continues to inspire us with the message of humanity, tolerance, courage and sacrifice. Through this commemoration, we seek to connect the younger generation with these timeless values and the profound message of his life,” Shri Goel said.
Vijay Goel further said that art and theatre possess a unique power to connect history with humanity. With nearly 50 artists coming together on stage, this soulful presentation offered audiences an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of sacrifice and moral courage.
