Indian Air Force veteran and Kargil warrior, Sergeant Brijanand Prasad had Co-organised RJS PBH 'S Kargil Vijay Divas on Sunday.
NEW DELHI -- Commemorating the anniversary of the Kargil War on July 26, 2026, military veterans, families of martyrs, and social leaders convened to honor the fallen, while expressing deep concern over the growing trend of Indian youth prioritizing lucrative multinational corporate packages over national service. The emotional toll of the war was recounted by Co-organizer of this program,Indian Air Force veteran and Kargil warrior, Sergeant Brijanand Prasad. During a poignant exchange with Rawat, Prasad recalled the devastating moment a colleague was fatally shot from the jungle, an incident that briefly silenced his unit before they resumed their mission with hardened resolve.

The core of the discourse, however, centered on the societal shift toward materialism and its detrimental impact on national defense. Girdharilal Batra, father of Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Vikram Batra, addressed the ideological vacuum in the younger generation. When asked by former All India Radio Station Director Manohar Singh Rawat what message his martyred son would give to today's youth chasing multinational jobs, Batra revealed that Captain Vikram had deliberately rejected a highly paid Merchant Navy position in Hong Kong. He emphasized that while earning a livelihood is necessary, leading a purpose-driven life dedicated to the nation remains paramount. He attributed the current apathy to a decline in familial values and urged parents to instill cultural roots early on.
The economic allure of corporate life was sharply criticized for eroding nationalistic pride. Col Rabi Mukerjee, an Indian Army veteran and Services Selection Board (SSB) trainer, highlighted a disturbing trend where multinational companies operating in India fail to hoist the national flag on Republic Day or Independence Day. He observed that parents are increasingly obsessed with academic percentages and coaching centers, producing candidates who lack basic human empathy and team spirit, which are essential qualities for the armed forces. Mukerjee warned that the military cannot afford to entrust the lives of soldiers to materialistic individuals, stressing that physical sports, awareness of global geopolitics, and family bonding must replace rote learning.
Lt Gen Dr Mohan Bhandari, who served as Director General of Military Operations during the Kargil War, unveiled historical failures in the education system. Responding to Rawat's query about making national security subjects compulsory, Bhandari recounted that following the 1962 war, the government intended to make the National Cadet Corps (NCC) mandatory in all colleges. However, the initiative was systematically derailed by university vice-chancellors and teaching staff who wished to avoid the additional workload. Bhandari strongly advocated for reinstating compulsory NCC training to cultivate discipline and a spirit of sacrifice.
Delving into the tactical realities of the 1999 conflict, Bhandari explained that the Kargil intrusion was a highly secretive operation masterminded by General Pervez Musharraf and only three other Pakistani generals, keeping even their naval and air chiefs in the dark. This deception occurred simultaneously with diplomatic peace talks in Lahore, serving as a harsh lesson in national security vigilance.
The event also shed light on the administrative struggles faced by serving soldiers and their families. Participant Maharaj Singh pointed out that soldiers hailing from rural backgrounds frequently encounter apathy from local government officials when trying to resolve domestic issues. He urged district magistrates and police superintendents to maintain dedicated registries for serving personnel and prioritize their grievances, preventing lower-level corruption and harassment. This sentiment was echoed by Sweety Paul, who passionately appealed for societal support for the families of martyrs left behind. Dr.Kavita Parihar, Dr.Mulk Raj Pant, Dr.Omprakash , R S Kushwaha , Rati Chaubey, Ishaq Khan,Dr. Munni Kumari, Sanjay Kumar , Binda Manna, Shiv Kumar , Akanksha, Reena kushvaha ,Bhanu Pratap Kushwaha, Mayank Raj, A K Kaushik were also joined and made the Kargil Vijay Divas Successful.
Hosted by Uday Kumar Manna, the event marked the launch of an international fortnight of independence celebrations spanning August 1 to August 15, 2026, featuring global participation including diaspora branches in London. Key announcements included a nationwide blood donation pledge campaign running until December 31, and the upcoming release of the seventh book in the Positive Media series on August 7 at the Delhi Metropolitan Education Institute. These initiatives aim to proactively instill positive thinking and patriotism among the youth.
The Kargil Vijay Diwas event served not only as a tribute but as a critical diagnostic of India's socio-economic trajectory.
